Prolam: The Pro in Engineered Structural Timber

Prolam: The Pro in Engineered Structural Timber

When it comes to structural components, few can match the quality and attractive structural solutions of Prolam.

Prolam H5 Posts are structurally engineered timber elements, with high strength, dimensional stability, good load carrying capacity and superior fire resistance.

Made from glue laminated, finger-jointed New Zealand grown Pinus Radiata individually treated to H5, Prolam’s posts have been awarded Codemarked status, which means they’re the only laminated wood posts available in New Zealand certified in-ground structural use.

Prolam Posts in the ground provide bracing capacity, are more attractive and more cost effective than other in-ground options. They don’t need be supported on an ugly structural bracket above ground, which means clean lines and a tidy fit into paving or slabs.

Because timber for each post is carefully selected, Prolam posts are more stable, reducing the risk of splitting, twisting or warping.

They are third party certified by AsureQuality to AS/NZS 1328, part 2 or AS 1720.1:2010, and supplied in a range of sizes:

  • structural grade PL8, PL17
  • appearance grades A
  • treated to hazard class H5 (CCA)
  • manufactured in accordance with AS/NZS 1328 Glue Laminated Structural Timber standard.

Fire Safety

Extensive fire test data shows that Prolam beams maintain structural load support for measurable periods of time in fire situations.

Design Flexibility

Prolam can be curved to virtually any radii without loss of strength and manufactured specifically to the designer’s needs.

Renewable Resource

Made from renewable New Zealand plantation timber, Prolam uses14 times less energy to produce compared to the equivalent steel beam.

Chemical Resistance

Prolam works well in harsh environments as it does not rust and the glues used are service class 3 certified.
