Methven is delighted to announce that its new Tūroa shower range has won New Zealand’s highest award for product design at the Designers Institute Best Design Awards.
Speaking about the Best Design Award, Methven’s Group Head of Design and Innovation, Andy Grigor said, “We are immensely pleased that the judges recognised our innovative Tūroa collection, awarding a GOLD in the consumer product section and a BRONZE in the sustainable product design section, culminating in the grand prize win as the ‘Best of the Best’ — the highest accolade at the NZ Best Design Awards.”
Established in 1988, the annual Best Design Awards showcase excellence in graphic, spatial, product, interactive and motion design. From a very strong field of Gold Pin winning products, Tūroa emerged as the judges’ 2018 top product pick. The judges commented, “That pure aesthetic, sensuous showering and cleansing experience, thoughtful application of high-grade materials with high-quality finishes complements the sparing use of water and convinced the judges it deserved to be Best of the Best.”
The Good Design ‘Best in Class’ Award is an annual design program and is one of the oldest and most prestigious international design awards in the world, promoting excellence in design and innovation since 1958. It is recognised by the World Design Organisation as Australia’s peak international design endorsement program. The jury commented that the Tūroa shower showed “…exceptional design with amazing resolution. This is a stunning product in every regard. Beautiful to behold and use. Simple, elegant design that you can see and feel immediately. Clearly a design-led process that has resulted in a world-class product that deserves the highest level of recognition in its category.”
Speaking about the Red Dot Award, Methven’s Group CEO, David Banfield said, “We are absolutely thrilled to achieve this hugely prestigious award that further enhances our reputation as a global leader in shower design, spray technology and stunning form. Our reputation for world-leading capability in showers and tapware is generating strong international interest with potential global customers and partners, and we are starting to turn international awards into increased international distribution”
The Red Dot Award, with its headquarters in Essen, Germany, was founded in 1955 and is the revered international seal of outstanding design quality. Now in its 63rd year, the 2018 awards attracted a record number of entries with 6,300 products from 59 countries vying for Red Dot honours. Only products which set themselves apart through their excellent design receive the sought after quality seal from the international Red Dot jury. Methven won Red Dot awards in 2016 and 2017, and now 2018.
The Tūroa Collection and its innovative shower spray is powered by VJet. It is a patented shower technology, designed, developed and manufactured by the Methven team in Auckland. Formed from pieces of stainless steel and using a simplified manufacturing process that is more sustainable than traditional methods, the Tūroa shower allows for continuous adjustment of spray type, from a needle spray to a soft fine mist and any point in between. It is designed to meet different shower needs at different times, from simple cleaning to a luxurious escape. Matching tapware and accessories complement the Tūroa shower, which allows designers to easily specify a complete bathroom range.
