An Environmental Product Declaration is big news for both Pink® Batts®, and New Zealand. It’s a globally recognised, independent assessment of the environmental efficiency of its New Zealand manufacturing process – proof that Pink Batts is up there with the best in the world.
It’s also proof that choosing Pink® Batts® glass wool insulation is an important choice for our country in the long term. While many people in the industry talk about eco this and eco that, Pink® Batts® is proud of the fact that it can prove its credentials in this important area. In addition, the fact they’re mainly using New Zealand recycled materials in the process is another way they’re looking after our land.
Just how did they do it? Through improvements made over the past five years at the Pink® Batts® glass wool manufacturing site in Auckland. The brand achieved a 30 percent reduction in global warming potential (climate change contribution) by making improvements in plant efficiency and lowering the consumption of natural gas.
Pink® Batts® reduced the acidification potential by 50 percent, protecting the long-term productivity of land and water through improvements in binder technology, and plant operational efficiency. An even more impressive 65 percent reduction in eutrophication potential was achieved by improving binder technology and water conservation at the plant.
A 55 percent reduction in photochemical ozone creation potential (low level ozone or smog) has been made through binder technology and operational efficiency. And as always, Pink® Batts® products contain more than 80 percent recycled glass, material that might otherwise be destined for landfills. EPD confirms the reputation of Pink® Batts® insulation as the right environmental choice for the New Zealand building industry, backing up a proven record for insulation efficiency, safety and reliability.
