Many exterior timbers are harvested from unsustainable old growth forests or are treated with harmful chemicals. Abodo Woods, by contrast, crafts timbers of lasting beauty that are safe for people and the environment.
The business is owned by the Gudsell family, with a deep commitment to the lifetime beauty of its products, which are crafted to be enjoyed for years to come. Designed to age with grace, its timbers have exceptional weatherability and maintain their beauty and durability for a lifetime.
Abodo is focused on a sustainable future. Its timbers are harvested from New Zealand’s FSC® certified rapidly renewable plantation forests. They are ethically crafted, with respect from beginning to end, allowing the company to meet today’s increasing needs without disadvantaging future generations.
Last year, Abodo left the New Zealand Timber Design Awards with a double gold for its work on Ngai Tūhoe’s Lake Waikaremoana Visitor Centre. After years of planning, the company is boosting its production facilities and further capacity increases are being planned to meet demand.
A second thermal modification kiln has been installed at the company’s Donelley site in Northland, doubling raw material production to a maximum capacity of 15,000m3 per annum. This has been matched by increased pruned log supply from Kaingaroa, New Zealand’s largest plantation forest.
A shiny new lamination line at OTC means Abodo can laminate and finger joint its premier Vulcan product range. This provides greater flexibility for designers and builders, with lengths up to 7.2 metres now being available. Design capacity is 12,000m3 per annum on two shifts.
To cope with this increased manufacturing volume, an additional warehouse shed has been built at Abodo’s Auckland headquarters. This will quickly be filled with feedstock for the New Zealand distribution market.
